Hi! I would like to tell you all the story of thees two OOAK Art Dolls I created a time ago:
This dreamy creature is Yùtù the Moon rabbit:
There's a Chinese Legend of it, I would love to share with you, here it comes:
The Legend of Yù tù
The Moon rabbit, also called the Jade Rabbit, is a rabbit that lives on the moon in folklore, based on pareidolia that identifies the markings of the moon as a rabbit. The story exists in many cultures, particularly in East Asian folklore, where it is seen pounding in a mortar and pestle. In Chinese folklore, it is often portrayed as a companion of the moon goddess Chang’e, constantly pounding the elixir of life for her; but in Japanese and Korean versions it is just pounding the ingredients for rice cake.
The Legend says The Divine Jade Emperor decided to find someone reliable and of good character to be responsible for producing the divine elixir, but humans were too clever, and did tricks and deceptions. Finally, the Divine Emperor of Jade became fond of animals and sent three deities to the mortal world with the task of choosing the most suitable animals to be cultivated in divine beings.
The three deities came down to Earth in the form of three old and prepared to search in the woods. They sat on the forest floor begging, "Please some food for us, since we have no energy to find food, we're hungry!" The animals who heard the cries came. Among these, a fox, a monkey and a rabbit gained much sympathy for the three old ones and separated looking for food. The fox found some manioc, the monkey picked up some fruit, but the rabbit looked around the forest and found nothing to eat. When he saw the three old men eating manioc and fruits, he felt much regret and sadness that jumped over the fire burning on the ground, intending to cook himself to give the elderly something to eat.
The old saw the rabbit heart and decided to take him to Heaven. When the Divine Jade Emperor heard what happened, found that the rabbit was benevolent and responsible, and appointed by the gods to teach him to produce the divine elixir. The rabbit learned diligently and soon knew everything. Very satisfied, during the conversion ceremony of the rabbit in a deity, the Divine Emperor Jade decided to give a new look. So, the rabbit skin was transparent as crystal, and it was brilliant. Seeing the whole body of the rabbit looked like white jade, the gods in Heaven called him "Yu Tu", the Jade Rabbit. And, touched by the rabbit’s virtue, drew the likeness of the rabbit on the moon for all to see. It is said the lunar image is still draped in the smoke that rose when the rabbit cast itself into the fire.
Similar legends occur in Mexican folklore, where people also identified the markings on the moon as a rabbit. According to an Aztec legend, the god Quetzalcoatl, then living on Earth as a man, started on a journey and, after walking for a long time, became hungry and tired. With no food or water around, he thought he would die. Then a rabbit grazing nearby, seeing him suffering, offered himself as food to save his life. Quetzalcoatl, moved by the rabbit’s noble offering, elevated him to the moon, then lowered him back to Earth and told him, “You may be just a rabbit, but everyone will remember you; there is your image in light, for all men and for all times.”
The other Art Doll is Yuki Kitsune the Snow Fox:
This little creature is inspired in Japanese mythology, where the Kitsunes (foxes) has the ability of Shapeshifting, they may take on human form!
But kitsunes have difficulty hiding their tails when they take human form; looking for the tail, perhaps when the fox gets careless, is a common method of discerning the creature's true nature. Sometimes the kitsune reflects a fox-shaped shadow, that shows its true form.
There are many legends about kitsunes converted into a woman, that fall in love with a human. The stories are very sad because they always ends up discovering them, and with great pain the kitsunes must abandon their love and return to its original form and the forest.

La Leyenda de Yù tù
El conejo lunar, también llamado el Conejo de Jade, es un conejo que vive en la luna en el folclore, basandose en la pareidolia que identifica las marcas de la luna con un conejo. La leyenda existe en muchas culturas, especialmente en el folclore del este asiático, donde se le ve golpeando en un mortero. En el folklore chino, es a menudo retratado como el compañero de la diosa de la luna Chang’e, constantemente golpeando el elixir de la vida por ella, pero en versiones en japonés y coreano sólo está golpeando los ingredientes para hacer pastel de arroz.
La leyenda china dice que El Divino Emperador de Jade decidió buscar a alguien confiable y de buen carácter para ser responsable de producir el elixir divino, pero los seres humanos eran demasiado astutos, y hacían trucos y engaños. Finalmente, el Divino Emperador de Jade se inclinó por los animales y envió a tres deidades al mundo mortal con la misión de elegir a los animales más adecuados para que se cultivaran en seres divinos.
Las tres deidades bajaron a la Tierra en forma de tres ancianos y se dispusieron a buscar en el bosque. Ese mismo día, se sentaron en el suelo del bosque pidiendo, “¡Rogamos algo de comida para nosotros, ya no tenemos energía para buscar comida, tenemos hambre!” Los animales que oyeron los gritos se acercaron. Entre esos, un zorro, un mono y un conejo cobraron mucha simpatía por las tres personas de edad avanzada y se separaron para encontrar comida. El zorro encontró unas mandiocas, el mono recogió unas frutas, pero el conejo, aunque buscó por todo el bosque, no encontró nada para comer. Cuando vio a los tres ancianos comiendo mandioca y frutas, sintió tanto remordimiento y tristeza que saltó sobre la fogata que ardía sobre el suelo, con la intención que cocinarse a sí mismo para dar a los ancianos algo de comer.
Los viejos vieron el corazón del conejo y decidieron llevarlo al Cielo. Cuando el Divino Emperador de Jade se enteró de lo ocurrido, consideró que el conejo era benevolente y responsable, y designó a unos dioses para enseñarle a producir el elixir divino. El conejo aprendió diligentemente y pronto supo todo. Muy satisfecho, durante la ceremonia de conversión del conejo en una deidad, el Divino Emperador de Jade decidió otorgarle un nuevo aspecto. Así, el conejo recibió una piel transparente como cristal, y se hizo brillante. Al ver que el cuerpo entero del conejo lucía como jade blanco, los dioses en el Cielo lo llamaron “Yu Tu”, el Conejo de Jade.
Y, tocado por la virtud del conejo, dibujó la imagen del conejo en la luna para que todos la vean. Se dice que la imagen lunar todavía está envuelta en el humo que se levantó cuando el conejo se echó en el fuego.
Leyendas similares se producen en el folklore mexicano, donde la gente también identificó las marcas en la Luna como un conejo. Según una leyenda azteca, el dios Quetzalcóatl, que entonces vivía en la Tierra como un hombre, comenzó un largo viaje y, después de caminar durante mucho tiempo, comenzó a sentir hambre y cansancio. Sin comida ni agua a su alrededor, pensó que iba a morir. Entonces, un conejo que pastaba cerca, al verlo sufrir, se ofreció como alimento para salvar su vida. Quetzalcóatl, movido por la nobleza del conejo, lo elevó a la Luna, y luego lo bajó a la Tierra y le dijo: "Puede que sólo seas un conejo, pero todo el mundo se acordará de ti, allí está tu imagen en luz, para todos los hombres y por todos los tiempos. "
Esta pequeña criatura se inspira en la mitología japonesa, donde los Kitsunes (zorros) tiene la capacidad de cambiar de forma y pueden tomar la humana!
Pero los kitsunes tienen dificultades para esconder sus colas cuando toman forma humana, buscar la cola, tal vez cuando el zorro se descuida, es un método común de discernir la verdadera naturaleza de la criatura. A veces, el kitsune refleja una sombra con forma de zorro, que muestra su verdadera forma.
Hay muchas leyendas acerca de kitsunes convertidas en mujer, que se enamoran de un ser humano. Las historias son muy tristes porque siempre terminan por descubrirlas, y con gran dolor los kitsunes deben abandonar su amor y volver a su forma original y al bosque.
